Position Overview:

This role is essential for overseeing and guiding adult male ex-offenders within a correctional residential environment and the surrounding community. The incumbent will ensure the safety and compliance of residents while maintaining high standards of security and sanitation. Additionally, the position may involve various administrative tasks and can be reassigned to different programs within the Residential Reentry Division as necessary.


Current Opportunities:

Available positions are primarily for weekend shifts, with occasional weekday opportunities for additional hours.


Key Responsibilities:
  1. Maintain consistent and reliable attendance.
  2. Adhere to mandatory overtime requirements as needed.
  3. Stay alert and vigilant during all shifts.
  4. Collaborate effectively with supervisors, colleagues, and external partners.
  5. Meet deadlines and manage time efficiently.
  6. Be adaptable to work at various facilities within the Residential Reentry Division.
  7. Supervise residents in communal areas including living quarters, recreation spaces, and dining facilities.
  8. Guide residents in the proper use of facility resources.
  9. Enforce established house rules for residents.
  10. Encourage good hygiene and work habits among residents.
  11. Oversee and assess residents' completion of assigned chores.
  12. Regularly check security devices, alarms, and other safety equipment.
  13. Conduct drug screenings and breathalyzer tests as necessary.
  14. Perform regular inspections throughout the facility, including resident areas.
  15. Initiate headcounts of residents at irregular intervals.
  16. Conduct external surveillance checks around the facility.
  17. Document and report incidents, including disciplinary actions and medical emergencies.
  18. Follow protocols for incident notifications and report distribution.
  19. Monitor and record medication administration.
  20. Provide receipts for residents managing funds for savings or payments.
  21. Motivate residents to adhere to program expectations through positive reinforcement and appropriate disciplinary measures.
  22. Ensure the safety and accountability of residents, staff, and the community.
  23. Participate in required training sessions.
  24. Attend scheduled staff meetings.
  25. Monitor residents' activities during community outings.
  26. Perform additional duties as assigned to fulfill job responsibilities.
  27. Enforce all regulations related to offender supervision.
  28. Conduct accountability checks for residents signed out of the facility.

Qualifications:

A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is required. Prior experience in corrections, security, or social services is preferred. Candidates must pass background checks, a physical examination, and a drug screening prior to employment. A valid driver's license is required; having an insured vehicle is preferred.


Physical Requirements:

Candidates must be able to navigate multiple flights of stairs and remain mobile throughout the facility. The role requires the ability to sit for extended periods, walk, and stay alert during shifts. In emergencies, the ability to evacuate occupants swiftly is essential. First Aid and CPR certification is required, and some lifting (up to 50 lbs) may be necessary.


Skills and Competencies:

Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, along with basic computer proficiency. The ability to engage positively with staff and residents, de-escalate crises, and demonstrate cultural sensitivity is crucial. Familiarity with security equipment, such as CCTV, is advantageous. Candidates should be open to learning and applying evidence-based practices in their interactions with residents.


Work Environment:

This position primarily involves interaction with residents, but also requires collaboration with staff, probation officers, visitors, family members, and the general public.
