Nurse Practitioner for Maternal Fetal Medicine

As a Nurse Practitioner in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, you will play a vital role in managing the care of obstetrical patients in the outpatient setting. Your primary responsibility will be to provide excellent communication and customer service skills, supporting patients, families, facility personnel, and UPHS processes to ensure an exceptional experience.

This position requires collaboration with physicians, fellows, APPs, nurses, and staff in a team approach to enhance patient care. You will work in a fast-paced environment, interpreting antenatal testing procedures, assessing and managing abnormal findings, and performing AFIs and BPPs as needed.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Interpreting antenatal testing procedures
  • Assessing and managing abnormal findings
  • Performing AFIs and BPPs as needed
  • Preliminary review of first trimester, growth ultrasounds, and cervical length ultrasounds
  • Care coordination with prenatal care providers and outside referrals
  • Patient tracking for highest-risk and complex patients

This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week, with 4-9 hour shifts (on-site) and 1-4 hour shifts (with remote option).

Responsibilities:

  • Provides direct clinical care for patient population according to established protocols and utilizes evidence-based practice standards in collaboration with team.
  • Maintains accurate and confidential medical records.
  • Documents all medical evaluations, diagnoses, procedures, treatments, outcomes, education, referrals, and consultations consistent with organizational standards in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Identifies self properly to the patient and family, and clarifies the role of the nurse practitioner or physician assistant if necessary.
  • Functions within their scope and refers to the collaborating/supervising physician when outside of scope, and/or directed by the physician or when requested by the patient and/or family.
  • Performs interventions specific to assigned patient population and collaborative/written agreement.
  • Participates in the performance improvement processes to meet quality of care and service standards.
  • Demonstrates awareness of professional responsibility as role model to peers and members of the health care team.
  • Performs approved therapeutic or diagnostic procedures based upon patient's clinical status.
  • Addresses patient and family concerns and creates a therapeutic relationship to provide support.
  • Provides patient education, counseling, and instruction regarding patient diagnosis, medical treatments, medications, and preventative care.
  • Participates in and supports accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities of the organization.
  • Precepts students and other healthcare learners.
  • Identifies patient/family needs for community resources and refers appropriately.

Credentials:

  • BLS/CPR, as a healthcare provider as per the American Heart Association (For providers in the ambulatory setting) required
  • Certified Nurse Practitioner PA (Required)
  • PA and/or NJ CRNP licensure (CRNP) required.
  • Prescriptive Authority (Required)

Education or Equivalent Experience:

  • Master of Arts or Science (Required)
  • Equivalent Experience:
  • And 2+ years >2.5years of experience, The CRNP must be reviewed by the Credentials Committee and approved by the Medical Board.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Licensed to practice professional nursing in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, M.S.N, and certification as a Nurse Practitioner.
  • Prior to employment, the CRNP must be reviewed by the Credentials Committee and approved by the Medical Board.
  • BLS Required
  • Board Certified Women's Health NP Preferred
