We are currently seeking a Mechanical / Solid Rocket Motor (SRM) Ballistics Specialist to join our talented engineering team. This role offers the chance to contribute to groundbreaking solutions addressing complex challenges within the solid rocket motor sector. The selected candidate will engage in research, design, analysis, evaluation, and testing to support SRM products and technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as a subject matter expert, overseeing various projects related to the formulation, characterization, and testing of new energetic materials.
  • Collaborate with government partners to advance and utilize legacy energetic materials.
  • Employ chemical principles to conduct research, analysis, and experimentation on propellants, pyrotechnics, and explosives for product development, optimizing propellant compositions for desired properties.
  • Identify testing requirements for propellant development, authoring test procedures, establishing objectives, and developing data requirements. Lead testing initiatives to characterize propellant formulations.
  • Develop computational methods and tools to predict and analyze propellant performance, combustion chemistry, rocket motor ballistic performance, and nozzle/plume flow dynamics.
  • Engage in technical writing for reports, publications, proposals, and presentations, assisting in the creation of product specifications and requirements statements.
  • Support urgent failure investigations and analyses, facilitating production deviation resolutions while meeting engineering standards and mission goals.
  • Prepare and present significant program efforts and findings to both internal and external stakeholders, including government and commercial partners.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field such as chemistry or physics.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in the field of energetics.
  • Prior technical experience in energetic material formulation.
  • Experience in experimental design and data analysis.
  • Familiarity with regulations regarding energetic materials and safe handling practices.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams and interfacing with internal and external clients.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Matlab, Python, C++, Fortran, or similar.
  • This position requires eligibility for a Secret Clearance.
Preferred Skills:
  • Master's degree or PhD in a relevant technical discipline such as chemistry or physics.
  • General knowledge of rocket motor components and processes.
  • Hands-on experience in applied R&D or production support.
  • Experience delivering high-level presentations and briefings.
  • Possession of a DoD Secret Security Clearance or higher.
