Job Summary:
As an Electrophysiology Nurse Specialist at Geisinger Health, you will play a crucial role in assessing patient needs, planning and providing nursing care, and coordinating follow-up care. You will oversee the day-to-day function of the Electrophysiology (EP) device outpatient clinic, ensuring seamless patient care and education.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide outpatient device clinic services, including interrogation, troubleshooting, and programming of pacemakers, ICDs, and loop recorders.
  • Develop and deliver ongoing education to patients and families on device placement and maintenance.
  • Evaluate and troubleshoot patient calls and concerns related to pacemakers, ICDs, and EP procedures.
  • Coordinate device clinic follow-up visit schedules to ensure consistent and appropriate clinical follow-up of all implanted devices.
  • Perform pacemaker, defibrillator, and loop recorder evaluations throughout the hospital as needed.
  • Maintain a database for all ICD implants, advisories, and recalls.
  • Coordinate and perform device remote monitoring services.
  • Provide patient care and education for patients in the specific age range on their assigned department.
  • Serve as a resource person for patients and families regarding the perception of the diagnosis and medical plan of care for the management of disease as designated by the physician.
  • Maintain availability to nursing for occasional in-service and help with orientation of staff involved in education.
  • Perform pre-visit data gathering and record keeping on new and return patients.
  • Assist in the management of patients with chronic diseases, including achieving key quality indicators, education, and long-term coordination of care.
  • Track performance improvement measures and assist providers with completion.
  • Obtain and document patient medical history, chief complaint, vital signs, and provide basic medical data for the provider, and prepare the patient for examinations.
  • Assist the provider in the performance of procedures as directed by the provider to facilitate accurate diagnosis.
  • Collect and prepare laboratory specimens and complete associated paperwork to expedite laboratory studies with maximum accuracy and efficiency.
  • Assist with the orientation of new personnel to ensure that they are appropriately trained to support patients and providers.
  • Execute and document ongoing patient communication.
  • Provide instruction to ensure patient understanding of medical condition and compliance with treatment instructions.
  • Insert, monitor, regulate, and discontinue IVs as required by the provider.
  • Perform and assist with triaging telephone calls concerning health issues and offer appropriate telephone management advice to patients as liaison to physician recommendations.
  • Communicate lab, radiology, and other testing results to patients and via telephone and electronic medical record letter notification.

Position Details:
  • Hours: Monday through Friday, 8-hour shifts, 8:00a-4:30p.
  • Travel: More than 50% - Outreach to regional clinics, as needed.
  • License/Experience: RN license, plus 2 years RN experience is required.
