Position Summary

The Advanced Neurodiagnostic Technologist is responsible for executing intricate electroneurodiagnostic procedures. This role entails overseeing daily laboratory functions with a primary focus on delivering high-quality patient-related services that comply with the standards established by the American Electroencephalographic Society. The expertise of technologists in this capacity significantly influences the quality of patient care and the operational efficiency of the neurodiagnostic department.

The Advanced Neurodiagnostic Technologist is a versatile allied health professional who may conduct diagnostic testing procedures, including but not limited to, electroencephalograms (EEG), evoked potentials (EP), nerve conduction studies (NCS), long-term monitoring for epilepsy (LTM), and continuous EEG monitoring in critical care settings. This role operates under the guidance of a physician responsible for interpreting and correlating clinical results. The technologist must analyze data during recordings to ensure the validity and interpretability of the information obtained. A thorough patient history collected by the technologist aids in tailoring the testing approach; thus, the Advanced Neurodiagnostic Technologist must possess a solid understanding of clinical neurology. Testing may occur in various environments, including laboratories, emergency rooms, operating rooms, and intensive care units.

Position Responsibilities

  • Prepares and optimizes the patient recording environment to ensure quality assurance of equipment and patient safety in accordance with regulatory standards.
  • Evaluates and extracts relevant patient neurological history from medical records to assess the necessity and relevance of the requested electroneurodiagnostic procedures.
  • Analyzes and compiles detailed reports following the completion of electroneurodiagnostic tests.
  • Engages with patients and their families to provide procedural guidance and foster trust and confidence.
  • Prepares patients for specific electroneurodiagnostic tests with accurate application of the International 10-20 System of electrode placement using FDA-approved safety electrodes and connectors.
  • Implements alternative strategies and adjustments to achieve optimal recordings, adapting procedures to meet unique clinical situations.
  • Identifies and interprets normal, abnormal, and variant electroneurodiagnostic patterns in real-time, necessitating immediate communication with senior staff and neurologists.
  • Records physiological parameters as required, such as electrocardiograms and respiration monitoring.
  • Recognizes patient and environmental artifacts, taking appropriate measures to document and mitigate their impact.
  • Demonstrates the ability to manage stressful situations effectively and make sound judgments to ensure patient safety during procedures.
  • Conducts complex laboratory procedures in specialized testing areas, including cerebral dominance testing and electrocorticography.
  • Participates in long-term video epilepsy monitoring using both surface and intracranially placed electrodes, learning to evaluate digitally recorded data related to seizure patterns.
  • Assists in monitoring digital recording systems during intraoperative procedures.
  • Performs complex multimodality evoked potential procedures and assists with nerve conduction studies.
Education and Knowledge Requirements
  • Graduate of an electroneurodiagnostic technology program. Four (4) years of relevant training and experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience as a practicing clinical Electroneurodiagnostic Technologist.
  • Current registration by the American Board of Registration of Electroneurodiagnostic Technologists as a Registered EEG Technologist (REEGT).
Licenses and Certifications
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of accepted practices in clinical neurophysiology testing.
  • Thorough understanding of electroneurodiagnostic procedures and protocols.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Positive interpersonal skills with patients, families, colleagues, and medical staff.
  • Knowledge of neuroanatomy, physiology, and the principles of electrical safety.
  • Familiarity with universal infection control standards and their application in laboratory settings.
  • Ability to mentor and instruct junior staff and students.
  • Awareness of the latest electroneurodiagnostic practices and technologies.
Salary
  • $28.32-$42.28/hr (Depending on experience)
    • $3,000 Sign-on bonus available.
Schedule

36/40 hours per week. All shifts available, Monday to Friday with rotating weekends and holidays. No mandatory shift changes. NO CALL
  • Day: 8-hour shifts scheduled between 7:00 am and 4:30 pm.
  • Evening: 8-hour shifts scheduled between 3:00 pm and 11:30 pm.
  • Night: 8/10/12-hour shifts scheduled between 7:00 pm and 7:30 am.
