Responsibilities

We are in search of candidates for the role of Builder Trainee within our Houston Division. This is a full-time, entry-level position that offers professional development and career progression within an award-winning national homebuilder. As a Builder Trainee, you will gain valuable experience while assisting a seasoned Builder on-site in high-volume communities or across multiple locations, all while participating in a structured training program.

The Builder Trainee Program is meticulously crafted to train, prepare, and develop Trainees for future Builder roles with Drees Homes. Builder Trainees will be exposed to every aspect of the construction process, from customer plan signing through the initial years of the warranty program. Training will encompass shadowing, classroom instruction, and hands-on experience through a formalized program consisting of nine modules.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise the progress and quality of all construction projects
  • Establish and uphold high performance standards for subcontractors and suppliers
  • Manage costs by overseeing material usage
  • Proactively address customer inquiries regarding the building process
  • Actively participate in subdivision and model upkeep
  • Adhere to OSHA regulations and other safety protocols
  • Create punch lists for framing, mechanical, and insulation
  • Utilize internal software/systems to track job completion progress
  • Perform additional duties as required

  • Ability to assist with scheduling, cost management, and quality assurance

Requirements:

  • 2 or 4-year degree in Construction Management or a related discipline preferred
  • Experience in construction (this may include internships or short-term positions during education)
  • Basic computer skills; experience with an iPad is advantageous
