Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Orion Group Holdings team as a Laborer. As a key member of our marine project team, you will provide support to skilled craft workers at various project locations. Your primary responsibility will be to assist in performing a variety of tasks for welders, pipefitters/carpenters, and other skilled workers. You will work closely with a Barge Foreman, Crane Operator, Boat Captain, Welders, Laborers, and other site field personnel to ensure the successful completion of on-going or new marine construction projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist skilled craft workers in performing their assigned duties
• Work as assigned by the Barge Foreman to ensure project completion
• Move work pieces, tools, and supplies manually or by hand truck
• Lift, move, hold, or clamp work pieces to table, into jigs, or into position as directed
• Clean work pieces to remove impurities using wire brush, portable grinder, hand scraper, or chemical solutions
• Connect hoses from hand torch to oxygen and fuel gas cylinders or connect cables from power source to electrode holder and work piece or fixture
• Start gasoline engines to activate electric generators
• Remove tags and move finished work
• Attach grappling equipment to objects prior to movement by crane
• Perform various tasks involving dexterous use of hands and tools such as demolishing buildings, sawing lumber, dismantling forms, removing projection from concrete, mounting pipe hangers, and cutting and attaching insulation material

• Authorized and obligated to stop work on any task or series of tasks whenever an unsafe condition or situation is anticipated or is observed

• Report any and all violations of applicable laws, regulations, or Company policies and procedures promptly

Position Requirements

• A minimum of one (1) year construction or craft worker helper field experience or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the necessary skills, knowledge, and abilities to perform the job is required
• Previous experience in Welding, Pipefitting, Piledriving, or Carpentry is desirable

Physical/Mental Requirements

• The incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation
• The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required
• This includes hard hat, safety glasses, respirators, ear plugs, steel-toed shoes, or other protective equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done
• The incumbent must possess the ability to remain calm during emergencies and respond appropriately as dictated by the circumstance of the incident and as directed by the Safety Representative or other management personnel
• Must be capable of evacuating the work area in a timely manner should an emergency situation arise
