Building Inspector I

Join the Highlands County Board of County Commissioners as a Building Inspector I and play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and integrity of our community's buildings.
Job Summary:We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Building Inspector I to join our team. As a Building Inspector I, you will be responsible for conducting inspections to ensure compliance with building codes and regulations. You will work closely with contractors, building owners, and other stakeholders to ensure that construction projects meet the necessary safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:- Conduct inspections of buildings under construction to ensure compliance with building codes and regulations.
- Inspect sites before construction to ensure that plans are feasible and compliant with building codes.
- Inspect alterations and repair jobs to ensure that they meet building code requirements.
- Perform routine electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and other related code inspections to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Assist and advise contractors, building owners, and other stakeholders on building codes and regulations.
- Prepare reports, records, and documentation as required by regulations and established procedures.
- Maintain a safe and professional work environment.
- A minimum of five (5) years of experience as an inspector, builder, engineer, architect, superintendent, foreman, or mechanic in charge of construction.
- Must meet experience requirements of the Standard Building Code.
- Must possess a valid Florida Driver License.
- Must have a minimum one (1) standard certification for Building Inspector I, have two (2) standard certifications for Building Inspector II, and have three (3) standard certifications for Building Inspector III, to be specified by the Building Official.
This position requires frequent communication with the public, vendors, and co-workers. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. Occasionally ascends/descends stairs, climb ladders, scaffolding, etc. Consistently works in an outdoor environment. Occasionally works in inclement outdoor weather conditions. Frequently operates a motor vehicle for up to four (4) hours continuously or intermittently.
