Position Overview:
The Registered Nurse (RN) II serves as a vital healthcare provider, taking on the responsibility and accountability for a specific group of patients during a designated timeframe. The RN II delivers patient care through the therapeutic application of self, the nursing process, the environment, and collaboration with other healthcare professionals. Key Responsibilities:
  • Conducts ongoing assessments and data collection systematically, concentrating on physiological, psychosocial, cultural, spiritual, and cognitive aspects, including nutrition, pain management, patient and family education, and advocacy.
  • Develops a goal-oriented care plan when appropriate.
  • Implements care consistently, skillfully, and thoroughly.
  • Prioritizes patient care based on essential needs and available resources including time, personnel, equipment, and supplies.
  • Identifies and addresses patient and family learning needs.
  • Exhibits sensitivity to patient and family rights, age-specific requirements, and cultural and ethical beliefs.
  • Coordinates care for various patient populations.
  • Establishes effective relationships with healthcare team members, patients, and families.
  • Respects staff rights and cultural and ethical beliefs.
  • Delegates tasks appropriately and coordinates the responsibilities of healthcare team members.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of care provided by team members.
  • Utilizes effective communication skills and methods, adhering to established lines of authority.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of safety principles as outlined by the institution.
  • Acts efficiently in emergency situations, following established protocols while remaining composed and documenting events accurately.
  • Takes responsibility for personal professional practice.
  • Engages in regular staff development activities for unit and department personnel.
  • Understands legal issues, including patient confidentiality and risk management in all aspects of patient care and unit operations.
  • Participates in performance improvement initiatives as directed.
  • Contributes to nursing research activities as requested.
  • Effectively identifies and resolves problems.
  • Embodies a service-oriented philosophy in all interactions with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Provides input for staffing decisions and demonstrates flexibility in addressing staffing challenges; shows adaptability when floating to other units as needed.
  • Exhibits proficiency in using computers and telecommunication tools for documentation, tracking, and communication. Capable of navigating a Windows environment and learning electronic medical record systems.
  • Performs additional related duties as necessary.
  • Creates a prioritized, goal-directed care plan based on nursing diagnoses and patient outcomes.
  • Recognizes patient and family learning needs and implements suitable measures.
  • Demonstrates a solid knowledge base and actions in caring for a designated patient population.
  • Regularly documents patient care and unit activities in a timely, accurate, and concise manner.
  • If no qualified candidates are available, may consider training in the specified specialty areas. Candidates in training must obtain the necessary certifications within six months of hire or transfer into the unit.
  • Palliative Care RN responsibilities do not encompass discharge planning or utilization management functions. May require visits to patients' homes, skilled nursing facilities, clinics, or other locations. Palliative Care services may be delivered telephonically or face-to-face in various settings, including inpatient, clinic, home, and skilled nursing facilities.
