The Advanced Machining Specialist role at CivicMinds, Inc. seeks a dedicated professional with substantial expertise in a prototype machining setting. A robust understanding of Turning, Grinding, and Milling processes is crucial, along with the capability to interpret technical drawings and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T). Candidates should possess a minimum of 5 years of experience in general machining, particularly with Haas and Makino Controls. The ideal candidate will also have the proficiency to develop programs as necessary and a solid foundation in manual machining practices. Providing constructive insights to design engineers is an essential aspect of this position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • With minimal oversight, constructs and modifies innovative firearm components, fixtures, and jigs according to specified designs.
  • Ability to interpret engineering schematics, sketches, or other verbal or written directives, including tool design blueprints.
  • Systematically manage Tooling, Fixturing, Materials, and CNC programs to ensure effective process execution.
  • Design and create tooling and fixtures to facilitate the machining and development of prototype components and rework existing parts.
  • Fabricate prototype tooling for the Engineering lab assembly process for low-volume production.
  • Make advanced programming modifications independently.
  • Ensure that the workspace is organized, clean, and free of hazards; implement 5S methodologies.
  • Possess knowledge in Lathe, Mill, Surface Grinding, OD Grinding, and Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM).
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor or team lead.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to interpret technical drawings (GD&T).
  • Familiarity with CNC machine "G-Code" and troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Experience in tool maintenance and replacement.
  • Skill in determining offsets and making necessary adjustments.
  • Proficient in using measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, height gauges).

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 5 years of CNC machining experience.

Preferred:

  • Vocational or Technical Degree.
  • Experience in manual machining.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles.
  • Experience with Wire EDM and Die Sinker EDM.
  • Proficiency in Mastercam software.
