POSITION SUMMARY

The Production Equipment Specialist reports to the Production Supervisor and is located in Hendersonville, North Carolina. This role is responsible for ensuring the seamless operation of downstream machinery, compliance with specifications, and scheduled production for the shift, while maintaining product quality and adhering to all safety protocols.

This position primarily involves operating downstream machinery such as the OCME packer, labeler, and palletizer.

The operator must strictly follow all safety equipment, procedures, and protocols.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES (essential tasks)

  • Operate the labeler on the sterile production line
    • Check glue type, flow levels, temperature, cleaning schedule, and replenish inventory.
    • Load labels, verify label application, enter data in the system, collect line samples, and follow changeover procedures. Responsible for the printing machine, ensuring ink quality, verifying application, speed, and shutdown procedures.
  • Operate the palletizer on the sterile production line
    • Verify correct program selection, film type, recipe, printer and glue temperature, oven settings, and cleaning completion.
  • Ensure accurate packaging and palletizing
    • Confirm packaging size, film type, case stickers, palletizing pattern, and correct case numbers.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and standards regarding cost management, waste reduction, product quality, food safety, and employee well-being.
  • Identify equipment malfunctions or deviations and adjust controls as necessary.
  • Set up equipment for daily production with the correct recipes.
  • Assist in mold changeover during size adjustments.
  • Respond promptly to alarms to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Monitor machine operations to reduce downtime.
  • Troubleshoot machinery for quality issues or malfunctions.
  • Follow startup and shutdown procedures for all equipment as per checklist.
  • Collaborate with supervisors, maintenance, quality control, and fellow operators to address issues.
  • Maintain accurate records by documenting all data such as cycles, frequency, downtime, and faults using the computer system.
  • Inspect the final product for quality assurance.
  • Adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) within and outside the sterile production line.
  • Follow all safety guidelines diligently.
  • Perform general housekeeping duties to maintain cleanliness in the work area.
  • Clean and sanitize the floor at least once during shifts.
  • Perform similar or related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 5 years of experience in manufacturing as a machine operator.

  • Experience in the food or beverage industry.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Mechanically inclined.
  • Proficient with technology and computer systems.
  • Detail-oriented and capable of multitasking.
  • Proven organizational skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS

This role requires physical capability to function in a standard manufacturing environment.

FREQUENT: Ability to communicate; stand, walk, climb stairs, stoop, bend, or crouch; push/pull; lift up to 50 pounds; use hands and fingers to operate machinery and equipment. Exposure to wet and humid conditions and seasonal temperature changes.

OCCASIONAL: Squatting, kneeling, reaching above and at shoulder height. Must be capable of wearing a dust mask and performing confined entry using Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures. Exposure to toxic and corrosive substances.

VISION: Ability to use close, distance, color, and peripheral vision with or without correction. Must be able to visually detect obstacles and potential hazards in a fast-paced production environment.

HEARING: Normal audio range hearing with or without correction. Exposure to noise levels from machinery and equipment.
