Job Title: Production Machine Lead

QuEra Computing Inc. is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Production Machine Lead to oversee the operations of our Aquila quantum computer at the AIST facility in Boston. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the optimal performance, reliability, and uptime of the system, while also driving the development and integration of new capabilities and features.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Initial setup and installation of the machine, collaborating with the QuEra team to ensure seamless integration.
  • Optimizing system operations for performance, reliability, uptime, and running costs, working closely with the operations team to troubleshoot issues and drive calibration, design, telemetry, and automation.
  • Supporting customers, including end-users and quantum software/service providers, to understand their needs and translate them into goals and priorities for system development and operations.
  • Collaborating with select customers to enable high-impact projects, running the machine in special configurations or developing features in the stack to support their projects.
Requirements:
  • A Ph.D. in experimental AMO physics with hands-on experience in building or operating a neutral atom or a trapped ion system.
  • Success in research, demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications and/or scientific talks and other contributions.
  • Strong communication skills and a strong interest in working with a variety of customers and end-users to understand their needs and translate them into technical requirements and roadmaps.
  • Software skills, including programming languages and a basic understanding of software architectures.
  • Experience in mentoring or training scientists or engineers.
  • A willingness to provide on-call support for machine operations.
