Job Summary

Mass General Brigham is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Pharmacist to join our team on a per diem basis. As a Pharmacist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and effective dispensation of medications to our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and dispense medications to patients in accordance with laws and regulations governing pharmacists and the practice of pharmacy.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other pharmacy personnel to deliver safe and optimal drug therapy and to maximize positive patient outcomes.
  • Act as a resource person with other interdisciplinary teams, participate in ongoing research, and oversee the activities of support personnel.
  • Provide care and dispense medication in accordance with the laws and regulations governing pharmacists and the practice of pharmacy.
  • Monitor and maintain documentation for all areas related to drug preparation and delivery, order entry, investigational medicine protocols, equipment management, adverse events, and drug inventory.
  • Provide consultation to the interdisciplinary team in the evaluation of current and recommended drug/treatment therapies to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
  • Update and maintain patient medication profiles to contain appropriate clinical information.
  • Teach and provide drug-related information to caregivers to facilitate understanding and increase the likelihood of efficient care and safe outcomes.
  • Consult with retail pharmacists when necessary to make pre-discharge arrangements for patients to obtain difficult-to-get medications and to discuss unique SRN formulations of medications.
  • Supervise pharmacy team members to verify accuracy of work before dispensing of medications.
  • Orient, train, and evaluate team members per department and organization guidelines.
  • Monitor and maintain equipment and drug inventory management in the pharmacy and patient care areas per department standards.
Additional Responsibilities for Level II Pharmacist
  • Coverage is provided to needed areas in the department.
  • Participate in pharmacokinetic dosing of selected medications and recommend dose adjustments and lab monitoring to meet patient needs.
  • Support patient care and drug therapy research by ensuring study protocol medication order compliance.
  • Direct and coordinate pharmacy services on the assigned shift to achieve quality, efficiency, and patient objectives.
  • Participate in quality improvement efforts to advance department objectives.
  • Perform preceptor role to ensure clinical pharmacy students achieve performance standards.
Qualifications
  • Experience: Level II pharmacist requires three to five years of experience as a Level I Pharmacist.
  • Licensure: Current, valid license registered to practice by the Massachusetts State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Skills: Safely execute all job responsibilities without risking injury to self or patients. Demonstrates the ability to assess and interact with patients and families using the theories of human growth and development, family systems, and cultural background. Computer proficiency required. Microsoft office applications preferred with ability to learn new software.
