Respiratory Therapist

We are seeking a highly skilled Respiratory Therapist to join our team at Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital. As a Respiratory Therapist, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the success of our respiratory care team.
Key Responsibilities- Determine respiratory treatment goals in consultation with physicians and nurses.
- Deliver and assess responses to ordered therapy to ensure it is restoring the patient's pulmonary function.
- Administer prescribed doses of aerosol drugs and utilize various types of oxygen and other therapeutic gas equipment.
- Monitor physiological responses to therapy, including vital signs, arterial blood gases, and blood chemistry changes.
- Educate patients and family members on respiratory care topics, such as correct MDI or aerosol use, smoking cessation, and other respiratory equipment.
- Assist in educating students and respond to Code Blue, stat calls, and be a member of the RRT (Rapid Response Team).
- Perform arterial blood gas puncture and assist with endotracheal intubation and extubation.
- Maintain the integrity of the patient-ventilator system by proper airway management and measure ventilator volumes and pressures.
- Be an active critical care team member in meeting patients' goals by attending rounds, giving pertinent patient information, and offering suggestions.
- Associated Degree in Respiratory Care.
- Current Massachusetts Board of Respiratory Care license.
- Registered Respiratory Therapist.
- Current BLS certification.
- ACLS Required. Must be obtained within the first 90 days of employment.
- PALS Required. Must be obtained within the first 90 days of employment.
- 1 Year experience is preferred.
- Staff adheres to all C.A.R.E. Standards.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and reviewing professional publications.
- Perform yearly departmental competencies in a timely fashion.
- Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
- Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate actions in volatile situations.
- Requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, and moving equipment.
- Provides age and culturally-appropriate care.
- Complies with the College of American Pathologists, CMS, and Joint Commission standards and regulations.
