About the Role

A documentary filmmaker based in Pittsburgh is seeking a mid-level Video Editor for a personal documentary project featuring life story interviews. This two-phase project combines technical file management with creative editing to produce a compelling demo reel from existing interview footage.

We are looking for an experienced video editor who can work independently and collaboratively to deliver high-quality results.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Meet in person in Pittsburgh for secure file transfer.
  • Assist with backing up interview footage between drives.
  • Organize and verify file integrity during transfer.
  • Document file structure and naming conventions.

Phase 2 - Creative:

  • Create a 1:30-1:50 minute demo reel from interview footage.
  • Implement provided graphics and music according to specifications.
  • Follow provided script for content selection and flow.
  • Apply consistent graphic treatment throughout.
  • Execute typography animations as specified.
  • Maintain focus on interview content while enhancing with subtle graphics.

Requirements:

  • Located in or able to travel to Pittsburgh for initial meeting.
  • Experience with documentary-style interview editing.
  • Strong organizational skills for file management.
  • Proficiency in professional editing software.
  • Understanding of typography and graphic animation.

Estimated Salary: $65,000 - $85,000 per year.
