About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Sr. System Development Engineer to join our Amazon Linux Team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing and maintaining Amazon's core compute platforms, with a focus on EC2 and other AWS services.

As a Linux expert, you will work closely with technical leaders to refine technical direction and develop innovative solutions to complex problems. You will be responsible for mentoring and guiding junior engineers, troubleshooting Linux issues at scale, and implementing automation and developer tooling.

Key Responsibilities
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers in Linux development and troubleshooting
  • Implement and improve automation and developer tooling, including CI systems
  • Update OS components and fix bugs, including security issues
  • Build and maintain relationships with upstream open source communities

Requirements
  • 5+ years of experience deploying and operating in a Linux/Unix environment
  • 5+ years of programming experience with at least one modern language
  • Experience mentoring, leading, or managing junior engineers
  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Contributions to upstream open source projects
  • Deep familiarity with Linux APIs and tools
