Research Veterinarian

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Research Veterinarian to join our team at United Therapeutics. As a Research Veterinarian, you will play a critical role in providing veterinary care for pigs in our designated pathogen-free (DPF) facility.

• Provide routine veterinary care and preventive medical care for pigs
• Diagnose and treat medical conditions in animals
• Assist and perform surgery on animals
• Test for and vaccinate against diseases
• Operate medical equipment and prescribe medication
• Manage semen collection and artificial insemination programs
• Maintain animal treatment records and perform comprehensive necropsies
• Supervise and develop licensed veterinary technicians and/or animal technicians

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an accredited university
• 5+ years of experience working in a veterinary practice
• 3+ years of experience following IACUC and research protocols and working with controlled substances
• 3+ years of experience performing medical tests, observing behaviors, collecting samples, and administering medication to large animals
• Virginia License to Practice Veterinary Medicine, USDA Level II Accreditation, and Eligible for DEA License
• Proficient in surgical skills and able to perform abdominal and general surgery
• Understanding of US FDA CFR for Xenotransplantation products for human use
• Ability to coach and train team members and author or edit SOPs

• 3+ years of experience providing large animal veterinary care with a preference toward porcine
