Key Responsibilities

The essential functions of this position include:

  • Assisting patients with daily living activities such as:
    • Personal hygiene (including bathroom assistance, bathing, and grooming)
    • Mobility support
    • Meal preparation and assistance with eating
    • Dressing and grooming support
  • Carrying out patient-specific tasks as instructed by a nurse, which may include:
    • Changing ostomy appliances
    • Reinforcing dressings
    • Assisting with prescribed exercises
    • Measuring and preparing special diets
    • Taking vital signs
    • Applying external catheters
  • Performing light housekeeping duties such as:
    • Vacuuming and dusting
    • Cleaning floors and bathrooms
    • Doing laundry and changing bed linens
Qualifications

To be considered for this role, candidates should possess:

  • A high school diploma or G.E.D. certificate (preferred)
  • A minimum of six months experience as a Personal Care Assistant in healthcare settings
  • Successful completion of a Competency Evaluation that complies with State Licensing Laws for home health agencies
  • A current CPR certification (recommended)
  • The ability to read, write, speak, and understand English as required for the job
  • A valid driver's license and access to a reliable, insured vehicle or adequate transportation

This position requires a total of 75 hours of technical training, which includes:

  • Checking vital signs
  • Accu-check blood glucose levels
  • Measuring urine sugar and acetone levels
