Job Summary

A skilled Respiratory Therapist with advanced knowledge and assessment skills for respiratory conditions. The ideal candidate will consistently perform at a high level, incorporating other system assessments into care and demonstrating excellent practice and documentation.

Key Responsibilities

Assess respiratory care needs and apply diagnostic testing and therapeutic plans with skill and insight.
Document patient care according to professional standards and departmental guidelines.
Accurately communicate patient responses to respiratory therapy interventions and recommend modifications to the patient care plan.
Embrace quality by comprehending processes, data, and outcomes, participating in quality initiatives, and applying standard procedures and protocols.
Embrace professional development through formal education, certification, and internal/external learning opportunities.
Demonstrate innovative application of technologies that support patient care and actively implement evidence-based practices.

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited respiratory therapy educational program.
Associate degree in Respiratory Therapy required; Bachelor degree in Respiratory Therapy preferred.
3 years of acute/critical care Respiratory Therapy full-time work experience if baccalaureate prepared or 5 years of acute/critical care Respiratory Therapy full-time work experience if associate prepared.
Active Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential with the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) required.
Licensed to practice as a Respiratory Therapist in the Commonwealth of Virginia required.
American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.
Active NBRC Specialty Credential (e.g., RRT-ACCS, RRT-NPS) required for Medical Center Respiratory Therapists; ACLS required for TCH Respiratory Therapists.

Physical Demands

The job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequent travel, and bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills are required, as well as attention to detail and the ability to write legibly. The ability to lift/push/pull 20-50lbs is also necessary. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids, and infectious disease.
