Job Title: Litigation and Transactional Paralegal/Legal Assistant

Overview: We are seeking a proficient and driven Litigation and Transactional Paralegal/Legal Assistant to be an integral part of our legal team at Reid & Hellyer, APC. The ideal candidate will have a solid grasp of both litigation and transactional frameworks, exhibit exceptional organizational skills, and show a dedication to providing top-notch legal assistance.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Litigation Support:

  • Assist in drafting and submitting legal documents for court cases, including pleadings, motions, and briefs under attorney supervision.
  • Prepare Case Management Statements, declarations, and other necessary documents for court filing.
  • Oversee and coordinate the discovery process, which includes document collection, review, production, and preparation of discovery responses in collaboration with clients and attorneys.
  • Maintain organized litigation calendars to ensure all deadlines and court appearances are monitored and adhered to.
  • Effectively communicate with court personnel, opposing counsel, and clients to facilitate litigation-related activities.
  • Provide regular updates to attorneys and clients regarding the status of litigation matters.
  • Organize and index litigation files, ensuring they contain the most current pleadings.

2. Transactional Support:

  • Work alongside attorneys in the drafting and preparation of various legal documents, including contracts, agreements, and corporate filings.
  • Conduct thorough research to support transactional activities.
  • Assist in due diligence for mergers, acquisitions, and other business transactions.
  • Manage and organize transactional files, ensuring they are complete and accurate.
  • Facilitate communication between clients and attorneys, addressing questions and providing updates on transactional matters.

3. Communication and Collaboration:

  • Serve as a central liaison between attorneys, clients, and external parties.
  • Draft, proofread, and edit legal correspondence, ensuring precision and compliance with legal standards.
  • Promote effective communication within the legal team, ensuring timely information sharing.

4. Administrative Duties:

  • Assist in managing attorney schedules, including coordinating appointments, court dates, and deadlines.
  • Maintain organized electronic and physical legal files for efficient information retrieval.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as photocopying, scanning, and filing to support the legal team's operations.

Qualifications:

  • Enthusiastic, motivated, and a team player.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred; paralegal certificate required.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of proven experience as a legal assistant, with a focus on both litigation and transactional matters.
  • Extensive experience with electronic filing in California's Superior Courts, particularly familiarity with California procedural laws.
  • In-depth knowledge of legal terminology, procedures, and documentation.
  • Proficiency in legal research tools such as Westlaw or Lexis Nexis, and document preparation software, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat Pro, and experience with legal timekeeping systems.
