About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Elevator Mechanic to join our team at InsideHigherEd. As an Elevator Mechanic, you will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, modifying, and troubleshooting elevators, dumbwaiters, and lifts on campus.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintenance and Repair: Safely and effectively perform a wide range of elevator system maintenance, repairs, and modifications. Complete and document preventive maintenance, tests, and diagnosis of elevator systems.
  • Troubleshooting: Locate malfunctions in elevator equipment and systems, such as brakes, motors, doors, switches, and controllers. Adjust safety controls, counterweights, door mechanisms, and system components.
  • Testing and Inspection: Test newly installed elevator systems and equipment to ensure that it meets specifications. Inspect wiring connections, control panel connections, door installations, and alignments to ensure that equipment will operate properly and safely.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Communicate clearly and effectively to co-workers and management, both verbally and in writing. Assist other trades mechanics in work projects or special assignments.
  • Emergency Response: Respond to emergency call-ins on campus and for emergency after-hours work as needed.
Requirements
  • Experience: Experience sufficient to qualify as a journeyman elevator mechanic with a minimum of five (5) years of training and experience in the trade.
  • Licensure: Licensed as an Elevator Mechanic by the State of New Jersey.
  • Education: Possess a high school diploma or equivalency (GED).
  • Physical Demands: Ability to stand or walk up to 2 hours at one time for 6-8 hours per day; sit for less than 2 hours during an 8-hour day; operate motor vehicles or heavy equipment infrequently (less than 33% of the workday); lift or carry up to 50 pounds occasionally (34 – 66% of the workday) and 75 pounds infrequently or seasonally (less than 33% of the workday).
