Lead Janitor

The Lead Janitor provides support and guidance to individuals with significant disabilities, enabling them to develop work skills and enhance their ability to communicate with customers in a workplace environment.

• Clean and maintain facilities, including hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevator banks, stairways, locker rooms, and other work areas.
• Operate cleaning equipment, including brooms, mops, and powered scrubbing and waxing machines.
• Polish metalwork, such as fixtures and fittings.
• Wash windows, door panels, and sills.
• Empties wastebaskets and replenishes bathroom and floor supplies.
• Assign tasks and issue supplies and equipment to employees, inspecting completed work for conformance to standards.
• Requisition supplies and equipment from supervisors or managers.
• Train employees on assigned work and equipment usage.
• Address employee and customer complaints, referring to supervisors as necessary.
• May fill in for general cleaning staff as needed.
• Operate power equipment, such as two-stage snowblowers.
• Provide proper upkeep during inclement weather, removing snow from walkways, building entrances, and dock ramps, and spreading snow/ice melting chemicals.
• Complete and maintain all required training.

• A High School diploma or equivalent, or any combination of experience/education to equal graduation from the 12th grade.
• One year of recent, relevant experience in commercial custodial or maintenance services.
• Prior supervisory experience.
• Some knowledge of general cleaning products and equipment.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to read, write, and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• The ability to apply common sense and good judgment in fulfilling responsibilities.
• The ability to interact effectively and supportively with people with disabilities.
