We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Behavioral Support Specialist to join our team at Hamilton County Department of Education. As a key member of our support staff, you will play a vital role in providing teaching assistance and support to students, staff, and families in our schools.
Key Responsibilities- Assist teachers in classroom settings, overseeing and monitoring classes during temporary absences, and setting up and conducting various class activities and projects.
- Work with students during class activities and projects, preparing instructional materials, and assisting with cleanup activities.
- Implement strong behavior programs, plans, and strategies that are appropriate for young learners, utilizing the Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) and Response to Intervention Behavior (RTI2-B) models.
- Support the tiered response system of MTSS and connect Social Emotional Learning (SEL) support and SPED resources, as needed.
- Provide tutoring or one-on-one assistance to students in basic educational skills, utilizing instructional programs and assisting with development of lesson plans.
- Assist in maintaining order in the classroom and administering discipline when necessary, in accordance with district, state, and federal guidelines, policies, and procedures.
- Monitor students in common areas, organize groups, and assist with cleaning and chaperoning students on field trips.
- Communicate with supervisors, employees, and other stakeholders to coordinate work activities, review status, and exchange information.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Basic technology skills required.
- General office/clerical experience or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Must possess one of the following: semester hours or 72 quarter hours, an Associate's degree or higher, or a passing score on the PRAXIS for Parapro Exam.
- One year of experience working with children preferred.
- Fluency in Spanish required for educational assistants in ESOL programs.
- Ability to learn and implement a variety of teaching strategies.
- Demonstrate proficient verbal and written communication skills.
Salary is based on a combination of relevant education and experience.
