POSITION OVERVIEW

Sciens Building Solutions is on the lookout for a Fire Alarm System Designer who will be accountable for the design and engineering of fire alarm systems, adhering to NFPA codes and project specifications. This role entails ensuring the precision and promptness of all related projects while representing Sciens. The ideal candidate will possess manufacturer training, in-house training, and relevant on-the-job experience in design. The Fire Alarm System Designer employs engineering principles to every design to satisfy code and customer specifications; reviews product specifications and performance requirements to determine feasible designs for installation in client facilities; collaborates with AutoCad (ACAD) drafters, project managers, and sales teams to support their diverse needs. This position mandates adherence to all quality procedures related to design, engineering, and drafting.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design systems in alignment with NFPA and project specifications, engaging in the review process with fellow design team members and drafters as directed by management.
  • Utilize software such as AutoCad to create floor plans, riser diagrams, schematics, system power calculations, and control panel layouts.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of all designs prior to submission for approval to ensure compliance with Sciens quality standards and code requirements.
  • Adhere to all Sciens policies and procedures during daily operations.
  • Work autonomously or collaboratively as part of a team to complete all tasks and related design functions. Regularly coordinate with sales and project managers to ensure optimal design efficiency while upholding the highest quality standards.
  • Provide assistance and constructive feedback to sales and project managers in organizing, planning, and prioritizing work.
  • Support management in the development and implementation of a quality service program aimed at enhancing efficiencies and proficiencies within the design and engineering department.
  • Advise drafters to ensure that their objectives and goals are achieved.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two to five years of experience in designing commercial fire detection systems.
  • Minimum NICET II certification in Fire Alarm and/or Special Hazards.
  • Strong knowledge of fire protection codes and operational procedures.
  • Proficient in AutoCad and other necessary software programs for job execution.
  • Comprehensive understanding of current NFPA 72 inspection, testing, and troubleshooting standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret fire alarm project drawings and specifications effectively.
  • Exemplary leadership and time management abilities, with a capacity to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, particularly in service, coordination, persuasion, and instruction.
  • Strong verbal and written communication capabilities.
  • Technical proficiency and a solid understanding of fire suppression and security design.
