Job Overview:
The Special Education Intervener Paraeducator plays a crucial role in supporting students with unique communication needs, particularly those who are deaf and blind. This full-time position involves working closely with certified educators to implement tailored strategies that promote student independence and effective self-expression.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide intensive support to students with dual sensory impairments.
  • Adhere to each student's Individualized Education Program (IEP) and implement recommended modifications and instructional techniques.
  • Develop, adapt, or source instructional materials and Assistive Technology (AT) resources as necessary.
  • Accompany students during all school-related activities, ensuring their safety and engagement.
  • Encourage student autonomy and intrinsic motivation.
  • Engage in continuous professional development focused on deaf and blind education.
  • Assist with personal care as required.
  • Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned.
Training Requirements:
Participation in state-provided training is mandatory.

Minimum Qualifications:
A High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Candidates must commit to training in deaf culture, sign language, and blindness. Personal Care Assistant certification must be obtained within 30 days of employment. The role requires physical presence in the educational environment and the ability to effectively interact with students with disabilities. Strong communication, interpersonal, and recordkeeping skills are essential. Candidates should demonstrate a collaborative spirit and the ability to follow directions. Regular attendance is expected, along with the capability to lift at least 40 pounds and perform various physical tasks associated with student care.

Preferred Qualifications:
Completion of an interpreter training program is advantageous. Experience with students who are deaf and blind is preferred. Proficiency in American Sign Language is also desirable.

Compensation:
The pay rate starts at $18.00/hour, with potential increases based on qualifications and experience in K-12 education. Additional compensation may be available for specific roles within the district.

Benefits:
Insurance benefits are available for positions requiring 6 hours or more of work per day.
