Starting Pay: $14.00
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The Lead Counselor is responsible for overseeing a group of children in a seasonal day camp and/or afterschool program. This role is focused on delivering a high-quality experience for both children and their families, emphasizing the core values of the YMCA: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.
PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES:
- Collaborate with the Program Director to design program activities that are culturally relevant and developmentally suitable, aligned with YMCA values.
- Act as a supervisor and Co-Lead Counselor, providing support to childcare staff.
- Ensure adherence to program standards, including safety and cleanliness protocols.
- Organize and lead staff meetings and training sessions.
- Educate staff on risk management policies and procedures, including medical and disciplinary matters, ensuring timely communication with HR.
- Exemplify relationship-building skills in all interactions, serving as the first point of contact for parents.
- Embrace and demonstrate the YMCA's core values while addressing community needs.
- Deliver a quality experience for children and parents by planning and executing culturally relevant and age-appropriate activities.
- Adapt quickly to unexpected situations to meet the needs of participants.
- Maintain positive relationships with parents and staff by understanding different perspectives and remaining composed in challenging situations.
- Communicate any concerns or suggestions regarding the program, facility, staff, participants, and parents to the Family Program Director.
- Engage with parents regarding participant issues, attendance, and program balances.
- Maintain participant records, including emergency contacts and special needs.
- Assist with participant registration for programs and memberships, demonstrating knowledge of all offerings.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Carrying, Kneeling, Pushing, Sitting, Climbing, Lifting (minimum 25 lbs), Running, Stooping, Crouching, Pulling, Standing, Walking.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred.
- Experience working with children, preferably in a day camp environment.
- Preferred experience in areas such as outdoor activities, sports, aquatics, and recreational games.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- CPR, First Aid, AED certifications, and Child Abuse Prevention training required within 30 days of hire.
- Completion of all mandatory online courses prior to the first day of work.
- Experience with diverse populations preferred.
EDUCATION:
High School diploma or equivalent.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
Proficient in the Windows Environment, with a focus on Word and Excel.
