Medical Laboratory Technologist

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Technologist to join our team at Midwest Cardiovascular Institute. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for performing a variety of routine and advanced medical laboratory tests associated with an invasive, non-invasive, and interventional cardiovascular practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine and complex tests and analyses on patient samples according to established testing procedures in the laboratory.
- Operate manual and/or automated equipment in order to perform assigned duties.
- Validate and/or write test procedures, adapting methodologies and evaluating new procedures or methods while maintaining open lines of communication with employees to ensure they are kept up to date with procedures and information.
- Record and release test results to be put into the computer system according to established procedures.
- Assign and review work of technical department employees daily based on assignment of needs, scheduling and prioritizing the work of the department to ensure adequate coverage and handling of specific projects.
- Keep supervisors informed of group progress, problems, employee performance, and any significant factors affecting assigned responsibilities, training new employees and monitoring performance of all employees in the work group.
- Perform other related duties as assigned and serve in whatever other capacity deemed necessary for successful completion of the mission and goals of CIS/MCI and in concordance with its patient philosophy.
Standards of Performance
- Keep work area neat and organized, reporting safety issues to team leader immediately.
- Work efficiently and manage time wisely, assisting other employees when all duties are complete.
- Communicate any problems, difficulties, or concerns regarding job duties to the team leader.
- Perform all duties without significant error occurring with any regularity.
- Meet all deadlines and timeframes for completion of assignments.
- Represent CIS in a professional manner at all times, demonstrating acceptable ability to interact with physicians, staff ('internal customers') and 'external customers' (patients, family members, insurance companies, home health, etc.) on a professional level at all times.
- Exhibit a harmonious relationship with other CIS employees in order to accomplish the duties and responsibilities of the position.
- Work and relate cooperatively with all other employees (internal customers) of CIS to assure optimum care for the patients of CIS and to achieve standards of care set forth by the CIS medical staff.
- Adhere to the CIS Compliance Plan as it pertains to the above specific job duties, using best efforts to maintain compliance by following the CIS Corporate Compliance Plan, attending CIS compliance education, following medical documentation guidelines, and communicating concerns regarding compliance issues.
- Perform accurate and complete documentation in the patient's medical record, when applicable, including documentation in both the paper record and the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Work with the electronic medical record (EMR) staff to maintain quality and work towards future EMR development.
- Maintain patient confidentiality according to the HIPAA standards of privacy and security.
