Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Histotechnologist 2 to join our team at the University of Miami. As a laboratory professional, you will be responsible for preparing tissues from surgical specimens for histology, electron microscopy, and immunohistochemistry. You will utilize laboratory and hospital systems to access data and perform other appropriate system functions. Additionally, you will perform tissue processing and sectioning.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare tissue specimens for microscopic examinations and handle complex jobs involving immunohistochemistry for clinical patient diagnosis.
  • Maintain and review quality control in assigned laboratory facilities.
  • Determine the acceptability of testing results and instrument function.
  • Maintain all equipment and place orders for reagents and materials.
  • Maintain records of samples, including sample accessioning and paraffin block and slide files.
  • Follow specimen handling and processing procedures.
  • Participate in the formulation and revision of departmental policies and procedures.
  • Provide guidance and leadership to employees within assigned section.
  • Make recommendations for improvement of laboratory functions.
  • Handle clinical and patient concerns in a confidential manner, employing integrity and discretion.
  • Identify and resolve problems with equipment and specimen integrity.
  • Examine slides under microscope to ensure tissue preparation meets laboratory requirements.
Requirements
  • Associate's degree in a relevant field is required.
  • Certification in a relevant specialty or field is required.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience is required.
Education
  • Associate's degree in a relevant field is required.
  • Graduate of a NAACLS accredited histotechnology program is required.
Certification and Licensing
  • Florida Clinical Laboratory Technologist license is required.
  • American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) certification is required.
Experience
  • Minimum 3 years of histology testing experience is required.
  • Ability to perform troubleshooting and communicate with vendors is required.
  • Ability to clearly communicate and coordinate with clients and pathologists is required.
