Job Summary

The City of Chesapeake is seeking a skilled Grounds Maintenance Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our facilities maintenance team, you will be responsible for ensuring the upkeep and maintenance of our parks, recreational facilities, and athletic fields.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain and repair grounds, structures, irrigation systems, and recreational equipment at City and school facilities.
  • Prepare athletic fields for various sporting events and programs, including lining, dragging, grading, leveling, and determining layout dimensions.
  • Operate various lawn and garden equipment, City vehicles, and common hand and power tools associated with grounds keeping, housekeeping, landscaping, and building maintenance.
  • Monitor and inspect areas for safety hazards and report any deficiencies.
  • Provide logistical support for City-sponsored functions and special events, including set-up and breakdown of tents, fencing, barricades, and other recreational equipment.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • High school diploma, GED, or specialized vocational training.
  • Valid driver's license and a driving record that is in compliance with the City's policies.
  • Ability to obtain a pesticide certification within 6 months of employment.
  • Previous customer service experience and/or work experience in athletic fields, landscaping, and/or facility operations is preferred.
