About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Thermal Hardware Design Engineer to join our team at Blue Origin. As a key member of our Thermal Hardware group, you will be responsible for designing and developing thermal control systems for our lunar landers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop thermal control systems for lunar landers, including component specifications, test plans, and integration with the vehicle.
  • Collaborate with the Thermal Analysis group to develop and validate thermal models and test plans.
  • Work closely with NASA and our National Team Partners to ensure compliance with subsystem specifications, mission environments, and design and construction standards.
  • Develop and maintain thermal hardware specifications, test plans, and reports.
  • Contribute to the development of short- and long-term development plans for thermal hardware.
  • Make buy decisions for thermal hardware components.
Requirements
  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
  • 8 years of relevant thermal engineering experience.
  • Solid understanding of thermal fundamentals.
  • Familiarity with common spacecraft thermal hardware.
  • Demonstrated experience building and testing hardware.
  • Understanding of aerospace hardware verification and validation processes.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Desired Qualifications
  • M.S. or PhD degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
  • 12 years of relevant aerospace experience.
  • Solid understanding of pumped fluid loop hardware, such as pumps, cold plates, radiators, valves, heat exchangers, etc., and semi-passive devices like sensors and heaters.
  • Experience solving a variety of thermal problems, demonstrating breadth in application.
  • Vendor technical management experience.
  • Familiarity with Thermal Desktop and Sinda/Fluint, including model validation and test correlation.
