**Job Summary:**

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Seasonal Bakery Clerk to join our team at Northgate Markets. As a key member of our bakery department, you will be responsible for maintaining and operating the bakery in an efficient manner, ensuring that our customers receive the highest quality products.

**Key Responsibilities:**

  • Maintain a clean and organized bakery environment, adhering to all health and safety regulations.
  • Assist in receiving and unloading merchandise, verifying inventory and checking products for quality and condition.
  • Rotate bakery ingredients and merchandise according to store policy, using the first-in, first-out method.
  • Take stock to storage or shelf areas, ensuring accurate inventory levels.
  • Reduce out-of-code merchandise daily to maintain department image and freshness.
  • Wrap, package, and price products accurately and legibly, adhering to department procedures.
  • Answer phones and take special orders, providing excellent customer service.
  • Control utility usage and observe sound conservation practices.
  • Keep merchandising areas stocked and properly faced, displaying products in an attractive and appealing manner.
  • Maintain general housekeeping and a regular cleaning program, meeting department standards and health regulations.
  • Check refrigeration equipment for proper performance and report any maintenance or equipment problems.
  • Secure registers and protect company assets at all times.
  • Adhere to all local, state, and federal health and civil code regulations.

**Requirements and Conditions:**

  • High school education or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum of one year experience in full bakery operations and procedures.
  • Health department training required.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts, handle sales transactions, and verify vendor invoice charges and counts.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand the English language effectively.
  • Ability to pass a standard drug test and qualify as being drug-free under the legal and medical guidelines permitted by the Drug Free Workplace Act of 1988.

**Physical Demands and Work Conditions:**

  • Regularly required to sit, stand, and use hands to handle, finger, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Occasionally exert or lift up to 50 pounds carrying bulk containers of flour, sugar, lard, and other materials.
  • Successful performance requires specific vision abilities, including close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to climb a ladder to retrieve inaccessible items from overhead or elevated storage shelves and racks.
  • Ability to work with bakery ingredients and spices, including finely powdered substances, meat products, and other materials.
