Job Summary

The Surgical Technician/CST is a vital member of the perioperative team, responsible for providing safe and effective care to patients during surgical procedures. This role requires strong communication and teamwork skills, as well as the ability to maintain a sterile environment and adhere to strict aseptic techniques.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the RN with patient preparation and admission, providing accurate information and supporting the surgical team.
  • Participate in surgical procedures, passing instruments, sutures, and sponges, while maintaining a safe and efficient workflow.
  • Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and surgical team, ensuring a smooth and successful procedure.
  • Contribute to a clean and safe environment, adhering to infection control and universal precaution guidelines.
  • Document patient information and surgical procedures accurately and efficiently.
Requirements
  • Graduate from an accredited Surgical Technologist program.
  • Achieve and maintain American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification.
Working Environment

The Surgical Technician/CST will work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, often in close proximity to moving mechanical parts, blood and body fluids, and potentially hazardous materials. The ability to work effectively in a team-oriented setting is essential.

Physical Demands
  • Occasionally required to maintain a stationary position (standing or sitting).
  • Frequently required to walk and move about.
  • Frequently required to operate a computer and other equipment.
  • Frequently required to use fine motor skills to handle and operate instruments/devices.
  • Constantly required to lift and/or move items up to 10 pounds.
  • Frequently required to lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasionally required to lift and/or move items up to 100 pounds.
  • Constantly required to communicate with patients and other care team members, requiring talking and hearing.
