Position: Security Officer - Mercy Lorain Hospital

Work Schedule:

+ Full Time - Scheduled for 36 Weekly Hours

+ Shift Times - Rotating (7pm-7am & 7pm-7am)

+ This role includes scheduled shifts every other weekend

Mission:

The mission of Mercy Health is to extend the healing ministry by improving community health, particularly for those who are underserved. Our organization prioritizes the safety and security of all employees, volunteers, students, patients, and visitors, ensuring a secure environment for care and business operations.

Key Responsibilities:

+ Safeguards patients, visitors, and staff by providing escorts, conducting patrols, and identifying safety hazards within the facility.

+ Prevents vandalism, theft, and property damage through regular patrols of all hospital premises, including internal areas and parking facilities.

+ Enforces hospital regulations, including parking rules, visitation guidelines, and policies regarding substance use.

+ Monitors hospital activities via closed-circuit television to identify situations that may require security intervention.

+ Intervenes in conflicts involving patients, visitors, or staff as necessary.

+ Reports all activities to the dispatcher and completes documentation for various incidents.

+ Understands and implements emergency procedures, alarm responses, and disaster plans.

+ Responds to emergencies and alarms as designated.

+ Completes required training to maintain departmental competencies and certifications, including IAHSS Basic Training within 90 days of hire.

+ Maintains a professional appearance and ensures that assigned areas and vehicles are clean and organized.

+ Adheres to organizational policies regarding attendance, confidentiality, dress code, and safety protocols.

Qualifications:

+ High School Diploma required.

+ Current Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA) Certificate is mandatory.

+ Associate or Bachelor's degree preferred.

+ IAHSS Basic Training and Certification for Healthcare Security Officer within one year of hiring.

Experience:

+ 1-2 years of law enforcement or criminal justice training preferred.

Essential Certifications:

+ Valid Ohio driver's license.

+ Successful qualification with duty weapons as per departmental requirements.

+ Completion of AED-CPR training as per departmental policy.

Required Skills:

+ Familiarity with LEADS and NCIC computer functions.

+ Ability to maintain OPOTA status and participate in mandatory training.

+ Strong understanding of laws, ordinances, and the Ohio Criminal Code.

+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

+ Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

+ Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
