Job Overview:The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking applications for part-time adjunct faculty in the field of Building Trades and Construction Management. This role is essential for delivering college-level instruction in the School of Business, Technology, and Trades. Adjunct faculty will be appointed on a semester basis as needed to teach courses that may include but are not limited to basic blueprint interpretation, construction codes, practical shop skills, building inspections, management of construction projects, carpentry, and plumbing.
The ideal candidate will engage in continuous professional development to stay current in their teaching areas and in the evolving landscape of community college education. Active participation in departmental communications is expected.
Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis, with reviews conducted as faculty needs arise. Minimum Qualifications:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with recognized industry certifications such as journeyman or master tradesman or contractor A licensure, OSHA 10, or OSHA 30 certifications.
Candidates must possess a minimum of five years of practical experience in the building or trades sectors, with a strong ability to read and interpret various blueprints and work drawings in accordance with local, state, and national building regulations.
All candidates for Adjunct Faculty positions must demonstrate excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; the ability to create syllabi and assessments; develop effective learning strategies and curricula; and the capability to engage with students from diverse backgrounds and varying abilities. Preferred Qualifications:
An Associate's degree in Engineering Construction, Architecture, Electrical Technology, or Technical Studies, along with two years of relevant occupational experience in building or construction management is preferred. Familiarity with construction estimating, contract management, bidding processes, insurance, and taxation is advantageous. Experience in utilizing technology within the classroom setting and prior teaching experience at the high school or community college level is also desirable.
