Compensation: Unpaid InternshipDepartment: Park Services - Animal Care Intern
Role Summary: Interns will collaborate with animal keepers to ensure the health and welfare of the diverse species housed in our facility. Responsibilities encompass diet preparation, feeding routines, habitat cleaning, and general maintenance. Interns will also engage in educational outreach and complete a research initiative.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with daily animal husbandry tasks
- Maintain comprehensive animal records
- Facilitate enrichment activities for the animals
- Engage professionally with visitors and guests
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols
- Support the mission of the park district
Supervisory Duties: This role does not entail supervisory responsibilities.
Additional Responsibilities: Other assigned non-essential tasks may be required.
Communication & Customer Interaction:
- Follow instructions and communicate effectively
- Foster positive relationships with colleagues and patrons
- Deliver outstanding customer service
- Address significant matters in a timely manner
- Propose suggestions for enhancements
- Maintain composure in high-pressure situations
- Represent the organization with professionalism
Safety & Risk Management:
- Comply with safety regulations
- Report incidents and injuries without delay

Qualifications:
Applicants must be recent graduates in Zoology or a related discipline. A valid driver's license is mandatory. Additional qualifications include:
- Physical endurance and capability to lift heavy items
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather
- Familiarity with zoo-related equipment
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Physical fitness and mobility
- Mechanical skills
- Spanish language proficiency is preferred
- Technological proficiency
- Attention to detail
- Flexibility to work varied hours
Work Schedule:
This is a seasonal internship with designated shifts. Interns may be expected to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, with shifts typically occurring between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
