Position Overview:

The Logistics Fleet Supervisor oversees a designated geographic area and provides essential support to multiple Independent Owner Operators and/or Company Drivers within that region. The decisions made by the Logistics Fleet Supervisor significantly influence the operational effectiveness of the Company, as well as the experiences of its Drivers and clients. This role requires the ability to swiftly evaluate situations and assess potential outcomes to determine the most effective course of action prior to implementation. The Logistics Fleet Supervisor must thrive in an environment with minimal direct oversight.

Key Responsibilities:

Driver Coordination and Management

  • Ensure adherence to all local, state, and federal regulations, including weight limits, permits, hazardous materials handling, and hours of service.
  • Manage Company DOT compliance within the operational territory to guarantee the safe operation of commercial vehicles, including drug and alcohol testing, driver log management, vehicle inspections, medical certifications, licensing, and violations.
  • Maintain regular communication with Drivers to monitor their movements and effectively manage delays or issues encountered on the road.
  • Collaborate with Drivers and customers to optimize revenue, reduce transit times, and meet customer expectations.
  • Ensure efficient utilization of equipment (trailers, chassis, containers, etc.) and maintain accurate records of all equipment, including those not currently in use.
  • Identify and categorize operational tasks such as pre-pulls, street turns, drops, pulls, and drop and hooks, ensuring accurate documentation in the Company system.
  • Communicate real-time changes to the operational plan with Drivers and customers to keep all parties informed.
  • Oversee communications related to specialty load boards, ensuring that all relevant updates are shared with customers and Drivers.
  • Proactively identify and address operational challenges, implementing corrective action plans as necessary.
  • Respond to unforeseen issues involving Drivers, routes, customers, and equipment by developing and executing action plans to maintain operations.
  • Continuously monitor rates while managing Drivers and the operational plan to ensure compliance with contracted payout percentages.
  • Engage with customers regarding any additional charges arising from the operational plan.
  • Coordinate accident management, including instructions for drug and alcohol testing, towing, clean-up, re-powering, load coordination, and reporting.
  • Collaborate with all relevant stakeholders (customer service, payroll, dispatch, and management) to address inquiries, formulate operational strategies, resolve issues, and process service or equipment requests.
  • Assess the need for repairs, arrange for them, and authorize necessary actions to restore service and schedules.

Rate Generation and Customer Engagement

  • Contact steamship lines, storage facilities, supplemental carriers, and other cost centers regarding accessorial charges that may affect Company costs and customer rates.
  • Coordinate delivery schedules with consignees and shippers/steamship lines.
  • Stay informed about zone/book rates specific to the assigned operational area to provide accurate rate quotes to customers.
  • Leverage zone/book rates and knowledge of available capacity in specific lanes to solicit additional business from customers, enhancing lane density.

Compliance with U.S. Customs and Equipment Regulations

  • Utilize rail and port websites to track the location and timing of relevant equipment.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date codes from U.S. Customs for imports, exports, and reservation numbers as necessary.
  • Ensure that all import/export shipments within the operational area comply with U.S. Customs regulations.

Reconciliation and Reporting

  • Update load and manifest statuses within the Company system, identifying and resolving discrepancies.
  • Verify the accuracy of information related to Drivers, customers, the Company, and/or Customs, addressing and resolving inconsistencies as needed.
