Electrical Principal Engineer Job Description

Dewberry Engineers Incorporated is seeking an experienced Electrical Principal Engineer to join our team in Raleigh, NC. As a key member of our Electrical Department, you will be responsible for providing operational and technical guidance to our design resources in all areas of electrical engineering.

The successful candidate will assist the Electrical Department Managers within a Business Unit/Office by providing them operational and technical guidance to help meet the client's desires and budget. You will work with a team of engineers on a variety of private, public, and federal projects, and team with architectural, mechanical, structural, and other disciplines to provide full-range services to our local and regional clients.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide high-level direction to senior electrical engineering staff to allow the Business Unit/Office to effectively operate and successfully complete projects.
  • Supervise all electrical department managers within an office or business unit for successful intra-office operations.
  • Assist the Chief Electrical Engineer leading MEPS Service Line's electrical community of practice to ensure successful inter-office electrical operations.
  • Ensure electrical department managers are consistently applying and complying with corporate quality management processes and procedures.
  • Ensure electrical department managers are providing timely and adequate guidance and quality oversight, including code review, of all project work involving electrical engineering.
  • Ensure electrical department managers are establishing and improving standards, practices, guidelines, and specifications for their electrical discipline area.
  • Lead the development of office electrical standards and coordinate those standards through the Chief Engineer across offices.
  • Engineer of Record on select projects as needed.
  • Provide 'on-the-spot' advice and decisions - technical and cost estimates.
  • Coordinate with client/project managers and department managers within an office to resolve electrical engineering conflicts.
  • Assist Office/Business Unit Manager to ensure successful office operations, including advice on staff organizational structure and office procedures.
Requirements:
  • Accomplished electrical engineer/PE with 25+ years of progressive technical and staff management experience in the design of power distribution, lighting, life safety, and telecommunications systems.
  • Experience should include technical oversight of multiple projects with proven success providing technical oversight on projects that meet contract specifications and technical standards to the client on time and within budget.
  • Strong leader with a track record of building and maintaining electrical department operations.
  • Self-motivated with highly developed verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
