JOB SUMMARY

The Operating Room Imaging Specialist plays a vital role in patient care within the surgical environment. This position involves acting as a patient advocate, ensuring safety protocols are followed, and maintaining sterile techniques during surgical interventions. The specialist is tasked with upholding the quality and efficiency of imaging processes in alignment with the requests of the surgical team.

KEY FUNCTIONS

Patient Advocacy:
• Safeguards patients from potential harm by ensuring sterile setups and supplies are utilized during all procedures.
• Engages in universal protocol (time out) practices to enhance patient safety.

Customer Service:
• Employs AIDET principles when interacting with patients to clarify imaging processes conducted in recovery areas.

Team Management:
• Guides and supports team members in the preparation and operation of imaging equipment.
• Aids in onboarding new staff regarding operating room protocols.

Performance Competency:
• Maintains equipment and workspace to meet cleanliness and quality standards.
• Adheres to safety, infection control, and radiation policies to protect patients and staff.
• Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary for providing care across various age groups, including newborns, pediatrics, adults, and geriatrics.

Technical Expertise:
• Delivers high-quality diagnostic imaging under the supervision of a physician or surgeon while ensuring radiation safety.
• Conducts imaging examinations with designated equipment in accordance with surgical specifications.
• Ensures safety measures and sterile techniques are consistently applied.

Cross-Training:
• Available for on-call duties as required by the cardiovascular department.
• Prepares injectors with contrast and verifies settings under surgeon supervision.

Goals and Objectives:
• Executes intraoperative procedures promptly and accurately per surgeon directives.
• Provides services efficiently while adhering to established standards and regulations.
• Functions independently with minimal oversight while maintaining composure under pressure.

Regulatory Compliance:
• Familiarity with care standards and protocols established by North Mississippi Medical Center.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Associate's Degree from an accredited radiologic technology program required.

Licenses and Certifications:
• Current RT(R) certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) required.
• CPR certification from the American Heart Association required upon hire.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification at the healthcare provider level required within one year.

Work Experience:
• Preferred experience in cardiac patient care for one or more years.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Proficient in diagnostic imaging techniques and equipment operation, including portables and C-arms.
• Competent in providing care for patients across all age groups.
• Strong integrity and ability to work collaboratively within a surgical team.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to perform under pressure.
