Key Responsibilities

The Transport Security Officer is tasked with the secure transportation of detainees between various locations while ensuring that the vehicles used for these activities are safe and well-maintained.

Main Duties:

  • Conduct pre-trip, during-trip, and post-trip inspections of all vehicles.
  • Provide written Daily Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR) at the end of each trip or shift, ensuring all potential safety defects are reported to the Transportation Supervisor.
  • Verify that all permits and licenses are valid before commencing a trip.
  • Ensure that vehicles are equipped with necessary safety equipment prior to departure.
  • Complete all required paperwork and reports accurately and thoroughly, submitting them according to established policies and procedures.
  • Ensure detainees are securely restrained before leaving a facility and during transport.
  • Follow all safety protocols while transporting detainees, adhering to federal, state, municipal, and organizational laws and regulations.
  • Immediately notify safety authorities and facility management in the event of an accident.
  • Provide detailed information, both verbally and in writing, to requesting authorities.
  • Deliver vehicles for maintenance and retrieve them when ready.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent certification required.
  • Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.
  • A valid "Class B" or "Class C" Chauffeurs Driver's License (CDL) with a Passenger (P) endorsement within 90 days of appointment.
  • Completion of eighty (80) hours of verified and certified company training as defined by the U.S. Department of Transportation.
  • Successful completion of an approved training program resulting in certification in Corrections, Law Enforcement, or Military.
  • A current driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to pass a company and Department of Transportation (DOT) drug and alcohol test.
  • Willingness to work overtime and travel for extended periods with frequent overnight stays.
  • Ability to manage physical and mental stress associated with extended hours.
  • Must be punctual and able to report to work consistently.
  • Capability to remain alert during assigned shifts.
  • Ability to work up to sixteen (16) hours within a rolling 24-hour period.
  • Maturity, flexibility, and the ability to command respect from detainees and staff.
  • Proficiency in using computers and relevant software.
