Job Description

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Professional Land Surveyor to join our team at the City of Visalia. As a key member of our Public Works department, you will be responsible for performing a wide range of complex surveys, mapping services, and providing administrative and technical leadership to survey and CADD personnel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform duties under the Subdivision Map Act as City Surveyor
  • Conduct topographic surveys, construction staking, monument preservation, boundary/right of way survey, and mapping services
  • Provide administrative and technical leadership to survey and CADD personnel
  • Coordinate the work of survey crews and CADD staff to ensure project needs and schedules are met
  • Resolve difficult survey issues, certify final subdivision/parcel maps, prepare and review legal descriptions and exhibits for real property transactions, review and approve surveys associated with lot line adjustments and annexations

Requirements:

  • Current registration by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors as a Professional Land Surveyor
  • Five (5) years of technical and professional surveying experience
  • Experience in the review of subdivision maps, preparation of legal descriptions and exhibits for right of way acquisitions and easements, corner records and monument preservation
  • Experience with GIS, AutoCAD Civil3D, and Trimble Total Stations and/or related software

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience as a supervisor related to overseeing and coordinating field and office personnel
  • Experience in municipal surveying, including the review of parcel, tentative, and final maps, preparation of legal descriptions and exhibits for right of way acquisitions, easements, lease site descriptions, sale of surplus city property, and finalize acquisitions through review and approval of final title reports
