Provides both direct and indirect patient care within the medical-surgical environment. Engages in communication with physicians, managers, and colleagues regarding changes in patients' clinical conditions, including diagnostic study results and symptomatology. Capable of responding swiftly and accurately to alterations in condition or treatment responses. Additionally, performs general nursing responsibilities within the departments under appropriate supervision.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Demonstrates proficiency in recognizing basic cardiac rhythms and identifying dysrhythmias.

Evaluates patients to identify those at risk for falls and implements the necessary protocols.

Exhibits appropriate application of the nursing process: assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation of various disease entities, including COPD, pneumonia, diabetes, anticoagulation therapy, total knee/hip replacement, cholecystectomy, CHF, UTI, MRSA infections, detoxification, cancer, and pain management.

Participates in Medical/Surgical performance improvement initiatives.

Demonstrates understanding of standards for restraints and seclusion, including protocol, physician orders, documentation, reporting, patient rights, and education.

Knowledgeable in Infection Control, TB, Bloodborne Pathogens, and Hazardous Waste Management.

Current unrestricted Wyoming Registered Nurse Licensure.

BLS certification is required.

Preferred baccalaureate degree in nursing.

Additional certifications may be necessary based on unit assignment.
