Key Responsibilities- Profile and Debug Model Performance Bottlenecks: Identify and resolve performance issues in our machine learning models to ensure optimal results.
- Improve Model and Data Ingestion Operations: Optimize model and data ingestion processes to reduce compute costs and improve overall efficiency.
- Implement Novel Custom Kernels: Develop and implement custom kernels to improve performance and cost-effectiveness.
- Suggest Alternative Modeling Architectures: Recommend alternative modeling architectures that balance performance and quality.
- Design and Implement Benchmarks: Develop and implement benchmarks to track performance optimization.
- Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams: Work closely with Planner, Research, and Evaluation teams to improve both simulation and on-board performance.
- Advanced Degree in Computer Science or Related Field: A degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Robotics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience with Popular ML Frameworks: Experience with popular machine learning frameworks such as JAX, PyTorch, or TensorFlow.
- Code and Testing Skills in Python: Proficiency in Python and experience with code and testing.
- Experience with GPU Programming/Optimization: Experience with GPU programming and optimization using CUDA or similar technologies.
- Prior Experience Optimizing ML Model Performance: Prior experience optimizing machine learning model performance, including quantization, architectural optimizations, and low-level optimization.
- PhD Degree in Computer Science or Related Field: A PhD degree in Computer Science or a related field, or an equivalent amount of deep learning experience.
- 4+ Years of Computer Science or Deep Learning Experience: 4+ years of experience in computer science or deep learning.
- Experience Implementing Benchmark Models: Experience implementing benchmark models and improving their performance.
- Experience with Model Optimization Work Deployed in Industrial Settings: Experience with model optimization work deployed in industrial settings.
- Low-Level TensorFlow Experience: Experience with low-level TensorFlow, including memory management and real-time/batch processing use cases.
- Code and Testing Skills in C++: Proficiency in C++ and experience with code and testing.
Waymo employees are eligible to participate in our discretionary annual bonus program, equity incentive plan, and generous company benefits program, subject to eligibility requirements. The expected base salary range for this full-time position across US locations is listed below. Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level.
Salary Range: $192,000 - $243,000 USD
