Job Description / Essential Elements:
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

1.1 Develop and present engaging lessons to students, assess their progress, maintain a well-organized classroom environment, and contribute to curriculum development.


  • MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Develop and present lessons that demonstrate planning and preparation, aligning with the district's course of study.
  2. Evaluate student progress based on achievement of performance objectives.
  3. Use a variety of instructional techniques and materials that are appropriate to the course and students.
  4. Maintain a suitable learning environment and demonstrate punctuality.
  5. Keep accurate records of student attendance and progress.
  6. Participate in curriculum development and implementation with fellow staff members.
  7. Stay up-to-date in the subject area and continually improve instructional techniques.
  8. Evaluate the subject(s) taught and adhere to approved district policies and procedures.
  9. Attend and participate in departmental, school, and district meetings.
  10. Supervise the proper use of equipment and facilities with students' safety in mind.

  • OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Treat students with courtesy and respect.
  2. Demonstrate awareness of students' social, psychological, emotional, and academic needs.
  3. Acknowledge professional responsibility to support and supervise co-curricular activities.
  4. Share ideas, techniques, and materials with other staff members.
  5. Demonstrate a willingness to offer and receive suggestions.
  6. Cooperate in the use and care of equipment and materials.
  7. Demonstrate awareness of the total school and district educational programs.
  8. Attend conferences and read professional literature.
  9. Maintain current knowledge of available instructional materials.
  10. Work cooperatively with district subject area coordinators in carrying out district programs.
  11. Keep informed of social, political, and economic developments in the school district community.
  12. Demonstrate awareness of the socio-economic and ethnic makeup of the community.
  13. Have knowledge of the functions of various community agencies, including referral services.
  14. Actively participate in school/community-related organizations.
  15. Promote community responsibility among students.
  16. Help inform the community of the services and educational opportunities available through the school.
  17. Recognize their functions as being in loco parentis and act in accordance with state law and district and school regulations.

  • SUPERVISION EXERCISED OR RECEIVED
  1. Under general supervision of the Principal.
  2. Supervisory responsibility over classified personnel assigned to their classes.

  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Appropriate secondary teaching credential.
  2. Minimum college degree to satisfy credential requirements.

  • EVALUATION
  1. Semi-annually by the principal or designate for 1st year teachers.
  2. Annually by the principal or designate for probationary teachers.
  3. Bi-annually by the principal or designate for teachers with permanent status.

Newly hired unit members will receive full credit for relevant prior verified contractual experience.
