Roving Crew Inspector

About the Job
The State of Idaho is seeking a Roving Crew Inspector to join our team in the Plant Industries division located in Northern Idaho. As a Roving Crew Inspector, you will play a critical role in safeguarding the public, plants, animals, and the environment through promotion, education, and regulation.
Job Summary
This is a temporary position that is approximately 40 hours a week, and is expected to begin around May 20, 2024, and will end around September 30th. The successful applicant will be responsible for conducting watercraft inspections and decontaminations at high-use recreation areas in Idaho to prevent the spread of zebra/quagga mussels and other Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) from infested states.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct watercraft inspections and decontaminations at high-use recreation areas in Idaho
- Use an established protocol to inspect watercraft and conduct hotwashes on high-risk conveyances
- Conduct quality control activities at watercraft inspection stations
- Set up and take down portable traffic signs on a daily basis
- Properly enter detailed watercraft data on an electronic inspection form
- Conduct clean, drain, dry public education and outreach
- Attend outreach events promoting the clean, drain, dry message
- Conduct early detection plankton tow sampling
Requirements
- Good communication skills
- Ability to pay attention to detail when conducting watercraft inspections
- Work in various types of weather conditions (heat, cold, wind, rain, etc.)
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. with or without a reasonable accommodation
- Ability to bend and crawl underneath watercraft, when necessary and with or without a reasonable accommodation
- Possibility of working evenings, weekends, or long hours
- State vehicle usage
- Valid driver's license
- Must be 18 years old or older
Desired Qualifications
- Aquatic biology, ecology, or field inspection experience
- Experience with pressure washers
- Ability to operate independently with minimal supervision in remote areas
- Experience working with and towing trailers
