We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our team at the Alabama Department of Education. As a Special Education Teacher, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality educational services to students with diverse learning needs.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) that meet the unique needs and goals of students.
- Collaborate with general education teachers to plan and deliver inclusive instructional strategies and activities.
- Provide direct instruction and support to students in small group settings, utilizing extended standards and Alabama Alternate Assessment (AAA) goals.
- Implement and update functional behavior assessments (FBAs) and behavior intervention plans (BIPs) as required.
- Document student progress and maintain accurate records, submitting required reports and data in a timely manner.
- Participate in system-adopted restraint training and collaborate with teachers, administrators, and counselors on special education matters.
- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians, administrators, and other stakeholders regarding student progress and academic achievement.
- Stay up-to-date with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and policies related to special education.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Valid Alabama Professional Educator Certificate in special education and/or collaborative education.
- Background clearance requirements as specified by Alabama statutes and State Board of Education regulations.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively as a team member with diverse groups.
- Proficiency in oral, written, and electronic communications.
- Physical and emotional ability to perform required work in a fast-paced environment.
This position requires the ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, with frequent interactions with students, teachers, administrators, and other stakeholders. The successful candidate will be able to adapt to changing circumstances and priorities, while maintaining a high level of professionalism and dedication to student learning.
