Zoning Enforcement Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Zoning Enforcement Specialist to join our team at Sandoval County, NM. As a key member of our Planning and Zoning department, you will play a critical role in promoting the health, safety, and general welfare of our community by enforcing zoning and code regulations.
Key Responsibilities- Investigate and respond to complaints regarding zoning and code violations, including illegal dumpsites, nuisances, and unpermitted structures.
- Conduct site visits and take photos of zoning code violations, communicating information to property owners regarding necessary steps to correct for compliance.
- Develop and issue Notices of Violations (NOVs) to property owners, tracking and conducting follow-up visits to confirm compliance.
- Develop, enter, and maintain data entry systems to track cases, maintain records, and coordinate with GIS and County Assessor's Office as needed.
- Coordinate with County legal staff to develop cases for zoning and code enforcement proceedings, prepare case files for court actions, and present public nuisance cases or serve as a witness.
- Review and recommend procedures, schedules, zoning, and code changes to improve the zoning and code enforcement program.
- Provide information and answer questions from the public, other agencies, and county departments regarding codes and enforcement issues.
- Review, approve, and respond to special event permits as required.
- High School Diploma/GED Certificate from an accredited institution and two years of experience in zoning, code enforcement, land surveying, real estate appraisals, or a closely related field.
- Valid New Mexico driver's license or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
- New Mexico League Zoning Official certification within a specified period of time after hire.
