Position Overview

As a Registered Nurse (RN) in our Medical/Surgical unit, you will play a vital role in enhancing patient care and comfort.

Our approach focuses on Relationship-Based Care, fostering a stronger connection between patients and caregivers, allowing for personalized and effective care.

In this role, you will work with patients recovering from various surgical procedures, including Cardiac, Orthopedic, GI, neurology, oncology, and general medical cases. At UT Southwestern, the opportunities to explore your interests and elevate your nursing career are boundless.


Qualifications and Experience
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program recognized by the relevant nursing authority.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of RN experience.
Licenses and Certifications Required
  • Current Texas (or BNE Compact State) nursing license.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Current NIHSS certification.
  • BSN is preferred.
  • Specialty areas may require additional experience or certifications.
Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct and document comprehensive physical, psychosocial, and emotional assessments, considering age-specific criteria.
  • Proactively anticipate the needs and expectations of patients and their families, utilizing this information to develop tailored care plans.
  • Identify and implement suitable nursing interventions based on assessments, ensuring timely and accurate documentation.
  • Prioritize nursing interventions based on assessments, promptly recognizing changes in patient conditions and taking appropriate actions.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of interventions and adjust care plans as necessary, documenting all modifications.
  • Adhere to hospital and nursing department policies, procedures, and nationally accepted nursing standards.
  • Provide timely education and support to patients and their families, ensuring understanding and competence.
  • Welcome and orient patients and families to the unit, encouraging their participation in care plans.
  • Advocate for resources that enhance patient safety and contribute to unit and hospital initiatives.
  • Participate in peer evaluations, providing constructive feedback and holding colleagues accountable for compliance with standards.
  • Take responsibility for patient care and quality/safety initiatives.
  • Share professional knowledge and technical information with colleagues and students.
