Position Overview
As a Subject Matter Expert (SME) Engineer, you will provide expert support to the US Space Force (HQ USSF) COMSATCOM Office, delivering and integrating a transformative COMSATCOM business model into an overarching SATCOM enterprise environment.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing SATCOM expertise on COMSATCOM technologies, including managed and transponder bandwidth, multi-orbit constellations, and innovative technology.
- Supporting the development of a new Department-wide COMSATCOM acquisition strategy, offering expertise and technical insight to senior leadership and acquisition experts.
- Participating in government and commercial reviews, symposia, and industry technology conferences to ensure leading-edge technology strategies are employed.
- Conducting technology assessments, market research, and analysis of COMSATCOM systems, developing and reviewing engineering documents related to COMSATCOM architectures.
- Delivering high-quality products and assessments, including those in support of network design, Information Assurance (IA) and cybersecurity, technology assessment, interface/design specification, solutions analysis, and technical project management.
- Providing advice and recommendations on scope of work documentation, network traffic engineering designs, analyses, models, and simulations; Satellite Communications (SATCOM) Management and Control (M&C) architectures; mission assurance strategies and evaluations (e.g., for cybersecurity and resilience); interoperability testing; inspection; technology roadmaps and capability insertions; industry standards; and capacity optimization.
- Collaborating with the SATCOM industry, including service, technology, and product providers, to communicate Determinations and Findings (D&Fs) in well-written artifacts.
Required Qualifications
- A minimum of 10 years of systems engineering experience in the field of SATCOM or telecommunications.
- A Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering or technical discipline.
- A Secret clearance is required.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
- Excellent verbal and written executive-level communication skills.
- A team player with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- A Master’s Degree in an engineering or technical discipline.
- Knowledge of current COMSATCOM vendors, technology, and business models.
- Knowledge of emerging COMSATCOM capabilities (e.g., proliferated Low Earth Orbit [LEO] vendors, optical links).
