Overview
UIC Technical Services is seeking a qualified Emergency Vehicle Technician. This role involves executing a range of skilled tasks related to both minor and major mechanical servicing and repairs of emergency vehicles. Responsibilities include thorough inspections and repairs on critical systems such as brakes, suspension, wheels, hubs, hydraulic systems, and steering systems, as well as servicing and repairing fire trucks, aerial equipment, and other emergency response vehicles.
Key Responsibilities
The ideal candidate must hold current certifications from Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) and Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) in the following areas:
- ASE Certifications:
- T2 Truck, Diesel Engines
- T3 Truck, Drive Train
- T4 Truck, Brakes
- T5 Truck, Suspension and Steering
- T6 Truck, Electrical Systems
- EVT Certifications:
- F1 Maintenance, Inspection, and Testing of Fire Apparatus
- F2 Design & Performance Standards of Fire Apparatus
- F3 Fire Pumps and Accessories
- F4 Fire Apparatus Electrical Systems
Essential functions include:
- Conducting inspections and repairs on vital vehicle systems.
- Performing routine maintenance and repairs on emergency response vehicles.
- Executing repairs and services in line with established technical manuals.
- Undertaking major repair tasks, including disassembly and cleaning of components.
- Understanding and following technical manuals and schematics for effective diagnosis and repair.
- Providing technical guidance to mechanics on maintenance tasks.
- Documenting and maintaining records of repairs performed on emergency vehicles.
- Completing additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Required ASE & EVT level II certifications along with a high school diploma or equivalent.
- A minimum of three years of experience in inspection, testing, installation, and maintenance of fire suppression systems.
- Possession of a valid State issued Class B CDL and ability to obtain a forklift license.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment medical examination and drug screening.
- Familiarity with military vehicle maintenance is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite is beneficial.
Physical Demands
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as bending, squatting, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Capability to work with power tools and in environments with moving machinery.
- Willingness to work in varying weather conditions and exposure to vehicle fluids.
