Job Title: Peer Tutor, Biology

Job Summary:

University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) seeks accomplished students and alumni to work online as part-time peer tutors for UMGC undergraduate students. Tutoring is offered in various formats, including real-time audio and live chat sessions using the platform, which students can access from their classrooms, and scheduled visual conferencing via Zoom sessions, which students can attend.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide support as a UMGC student or alumni peer tutor to other undergraduate students enrolled in UMGC courses.
  • Respond to undergraduate students' questions and concerns related to their UMGC assigned courses.
  • Respond to questions about course concepts related to assigned readings, projects, or homework assignments.
  • Provide clarifications, examples, and tutorials that support the student in developing a problem-solving strategy and authentic learning.
  • Promote a professional, respectful, and safe online learning environment.
  • Work more closely with English language learners.
Requirements:
  • In-depth knowledge in the undergraduate level courses to be supported under this position (BIOL 101, BIOL 102, and BIOL 103).
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work closely with students to ensure student success.
  • Ability to work with diverse student populations.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Letter of recommendation or referral from a faculty member who teaches the course(s) for which you are applying to.
  • Background in teaching, tutoring, and/or other type of learning support experience initiatives.
